Légendes anciennes

Orpheus, greatest of musicians, bravely descends into the underworld to rescue his beloved wife, Eurydice. After pleading with Pluto, the god of the dead, his mournful request is granted and the happy couple is reunited.

This dramatic setting of poetry to music by Louis-Nicolas Clérambault would have delighted opera audiences during the warmer months of 18th century France.

Featuring Yorkshire Baroque players.
